A BlogPause
I have been an unreliable blogger. I've come to admire those who post every day, or multiple times a day: I can barely eke out a post every month, and that only upon nagging by my assistant. But deadline pressures -- this book-a-year gig -- combined with all the pre-publication madness that takes up so much of my time -- make it hard to keep at this. So for those of year who visit this blog from time to time wondering what's going on here, I apologize. I'm taking a break as I try to get a good chunk of my new book done before I go off on book tour. If sometime comes to me that demands to be blogged, I'll post it here. But otherwise . . . . I'll be back around book tour (April 19th on).

Dear Mr. Finder,
I finished reading Paranoia, today, and enjoyed it thoroughly. The story was captivating and I could hardly put it down.
I retired three years ago from a major airplane manufacturer and went back to school, earning an advance degree. My experience, over many years in the corporate world, was your story was not only plausible, but also quite real. I was the export compliance manager for a major division of the company and witnessed many managers violating export regulations as well as purloining business secrets from rival companies.
I found it refreshing that you left the conclusion of the story to the individual reader. My husband read it prior to me, and insisted that the book ended with “Adam” shunning the invitation to work for “Trion” as “Adam” perceived himself to be morally above the dirty tricks that “Jock”’ embraced, however “Adam” was perfectly aware of his own role in ‘dirty tricks’ he performed for “Wyatt”’.
I mentioned to my husband that I thought the beauty of the book was to portray real corporate life and to lead the reader to think about how he/she would end the story based upon his/her personal ethics. I then asked my husband to go back and read the last three pages and he did, however he stood by his interpretation that “Adam” had continued to walk away form the ride that “Alana” offered him. I told him to look at the last few sentence and to tell me what was written. He saw my point of view that the reader had to supply his or her own ending. I think it would be very interesting to poll each reader to find out what they thought the ending was. My guess, based upon our culture, you would find a larger percentage of people that would say that he went back to work for ‘Trion’. This is in interesting comment upon our societal values.

Loved the review on David Montgomery's blog this month. I'm looking forward to meeting you again this spring in LA. I had a chance to meet you last year with my son Kasey at Mysteries To Die For in Thousand Oaks.

Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.

Paranoia. I'm at chapter 75 and I have shut down my continued reading. Why? I have developed a considerable amount of empathy for Adam, Jock and Antoine. While I will definitely finish the book, I felt the need to sit back for a short bit. Ver unusual territory for a bookreader like myself.
